A RUSSIAN ENGRAVED SILVER PAN-SLAVIC STYLE CREAMER - Of bulbous baluster form with a flared neck and pronounced pouring lip, the surface richly engraved with Pan-Slavic geometric ornament, rosettes, and zig-zag borders. The handle of a tapering scroll form. Gilded interior. The base struck with clear Moscow hallmarks including the city mark of St. George, assay master initials A.K. (for Alexander Karpinsky, active 1875–1890), maker’s initials С.И., and the date 1881. Maker’s mark: Cyrillic С.И. (SI). Assay master А.К., St. George Moscow town mark. Date 1881. Weight: 5.7 oz (approx. 162 g.) Notes: This creamer exemplifies the Pan-Slavic revival taste of the late 19th century, an artistic movement emphasizing traditional folk patterns and archaic geometric motifs rendered through fine niello and engraving. Comparable silverwork of this type was produced by Moscow workshops such as Ovchinnikov and Sazikov during the same decade. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
