A RUSSIAN PACEL-GILT SILVER LIDDED SHELL BOX, 1778 - Of compressed circular form, the lid and body chased in bold relief with Rococo shell and floral ornamentation, richly gilt and finely detailed throughout. The top is designed as a scallop shell, surrounded by alternating shell and floral motifs, and the body repeats the same exuberant repoussé ornament. The gilded interior is beautifully preserved, the hinge in perfect working order. Hallmarks: Moscow city mark (St. George), assayer’s initials and date 1778. Maker’s mark in Cyrillic (indistinct but clearly struck). Weight: 16.1 oz. (458 g.) Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C.
