A RUSSIAN PARCEL-GILT SILVER LIDDED BOWL, 1816 - A finely made Russian silver lidded bowl in a form inspired by a Greek Kantharos, with the characteristic large, curving handles being shaped as scaly snakes, ending with their faces attached to the wide, shallow bowl. The side of the bowl is ringed with grape vine patterning on a stippled background. The handle of the lid is shaped as a swan, whose feet are surrounded by leaves emanating toward the rim. Hallmarks: 'GA' cyrillic maker's mark, 'IB' latin script mark, 84 silver proof, 1816 date mark with illegible assayer's mark. Weight: 20.6 oz., (584 g.) Please make all inquiries before bidding.
