A LARGE RUSSIAN PARCEL-GILT SILVER AND NIELLO BASKET WITH A VIEW OF MOSCOW KREMLIN, 1894 - Of oval form on a slightly raised foot, the sides finely engraved with scrolling foliate ornament and oval niello panels depicting the Moscow Kremlin, St. Basil's Cathedral, date ”1894” and monogram ”AV” (Cyrillic). The hinged handle rises gracefully from the rim, completing the basket’s elegant silhouette. The interior parcel gilt. A richly decorated and substantial example of late Imperial Russian niello silverwork, exemplifying the refined craftsmanship of Moscow silversmiths during the reign of Alexander III. Hallmarks: Maker’s mark ”МС” (Cyrillic), assayer's mark ”АС”, 1894 date mark, 84 silver standard, St. George Moscow mark, and the Imperial double-headed eagle mark. Weight: 23.1 oz. (654.9 g.)
