ATTRIBUTED TO FRANCESCO FIERAVINO, CALLED ”IL MALTESE” (ROME, CIRCA 1620–1660) - A sumptuous Baroque still life composed with a rich Oriental carpet cascading over a ledge beside a repoussé copper ewer, pewter plate, glass bottles, and fruit arranged in a silver bowl. The scene is animated by the presence of a parrot perched amid the drapery and a single tulip in a glass vase, testifying to Fieravino’s fascination with exotic luxury and his virtuoso handling of texture and light. This work exemplifies the refined Roman still-life tradition of the mid-17th century, combining the compositional grandeur of Neapolitan and Flemish influences with the controlled chiaroscuro typical of Fieravino’s oeuvre. The painter’s distinctive rendering of textiles, metallic reflections, and symbolic still-life elements aligns it closely with comparable works in the Galleria Doria-Pamphilj, Rome, and the Museo di Capodimonte, Naples.
