AN OIL ON BOARD PAINTING ”MOSES STRIKING THE ROCK”, CIRCLE OF CIRO FERRI (ITALIAN, 1634–1689) - A grand and dramatic Baroque composition depicting the biblical episode of Moses Striking the Rock at Horeb (Exodus 17:6), in which Moses, following God’s command, brings forth water from the rock to quench the thirst of the Israelites. The scene is rendered with remarkable dynamism and emotional intensity: Moses stands elevated at the center, his gesture commanding the miracle, as figures below crowd around to collect the flowing water. Ciro Ferri, a foremost pupil of Pietro da Cortona, brings to the subject his characteristic theatrical movement, sculptural modeling of forms, and vibrant chromatic harmony. The swirling draperies and complex arrangement of figures create a rhythmic composition, emphasizing divine intervention and human gratitude. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
