A FRENCH LOUIS XV OIL ON CANVAS SUPRAPORTE PAINTING, CA. THE MID 18TH CEN. - A French school oil on canvas supraporte painting dating back to the Louis XV period, c. 1760s. The painting shows a coastal landscape with human figures. Housed in a gilt cartouche frame, finely carved with rocailles and foliage motifs. During the reign of King Louis XV (1715–1774), supraporte (overdoor) paintings became a key element of the elaborate Rococo style. They were often commissioned to harmonize with the decorative paneling, or boiserie, of a room. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C.
