Bidspirit auction | A GUSTAVE GILLOT (FRENCH, 1888–1965),

A GUSTAVE GILLOT (FRENCH, 1888–1965), ”POMONE” BRONZE SCULPTURE OF THE GODDESS POMONA - Edition Pomone, France, circa 1920s. Patinated bronze. Signed G. Gillot and inscribed Édition Pomone on the base. A refined Art Deco bronze figure representing Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and abundance, depicted standing gracefully with one arm raised and the other holding a cascading garland of fruits and flowers. Her softly modeled features, stylized hair, and elongated proportions exemplify the decorative aesthetic of 1920s French sculpture. The sculpture is cast in dark brown patinated bronze, with smooth surface treatment contrasting against the textured drapery and naturalistic foliage. Produced by Édition Pomone, the decorative arts studio associated with Le Bon Marché department store in Paris, known for promoting contemporary French design and sculpture during the interwar period. Footnotes: Gustave Gillot was a French sculptor active during the first half of the 20th century, celebrated for his elegant female figures rendered in bronze, terracotta, and spelter. His works—often allegorical in theme reflect the stylistic transition from Art Nouveau to Art Deco, combining classical poise with modern sensuality. The present example, “Pomone, ” embodies these qualities and remains one of his most recognizable subjects. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C.
