AN ART DECO CARVED WOOD FIGURAL LAMP, FRANCE OR CENTRAL EUROPE, CIRCA 1925–1935 - A striking Art Deco figural lamp carved from warm-toned wood, depicting a semi-nude woman in classical pose, gracefully draped at the hips and standing beside swirling organic forms. Three serpent-like bronze or patinated metal arms extend from behind her, each ending in a bulb socket, forming a dynamic sculptural composition that merges lighting design with fine carving. The figure’s stylized features and elongated proportions reflect the aesthetic of the interwar period, recalling the influence of artists such as Demétre Chiparus, Jean Besnard, and Le Verrier, who explored the synthesis of sculpture and applied arts. Footnotes: This lamp exemplifies the Art Deco fascination with exoticism and sensuality, where the human figure, particularly the female form, was integrated into functional objects.
