A CARVED MALACHITE PARROT, INSCRIBED ”E M SANDOZ”, 20TH CENTURY - A stylized carved malachite figure of a parrot is shown perched on an integral rectangular base. The sculptor has oriented the stone to display the natural banding of the malachite which flows across the body and plinth in attractive concentric patterns. The underside is fitted with green felt. The side of the base bears an incised inscription reading ”E D Sandoz”. Footnote: Édouard-Marcel Sandoz (1881–1971), the well-known Swiss sculptor celebrated for his animal figures.
