CARL DEFFNER GERMAN JUGENSTIL WINE COOLER IN HAMMERED COOPER & CAST BRONZE - Carl Deffner, antique early 20th century champagne or wine cooler made out of hammered copper and cast bronze metals. Continental Arts and Crafts designs in the Jugendstil style. Dated as circa 1900s. Marked at the bottom with the Crest with Medieval Axes crossed and initials C.D.E. Manufactured at Esslingen am Neckar, Germany. Wide body with a slight cone profile, a wider plate rim functioning as a base. Two thin and geometrically designed handles at opposite sides are attached to the upper and lower sections of the body. The hammered finish present on the body of the cooler faces is completely present near the upper mouth of the vessel, leaving a smooth band ending on a thin raised collar. Karl Ludwig Deffner (1817–1877) was a German manufacturer,  politician and geologist. He received his education at polytechnic schools in Stuttgart and Berlin. In 1846, following the death of his father, he took over management of a metal goods factory. In the 1850s, he gradually handed over the company's business to his younger brother, Wilhelm Deffner.
