A RUSSIAN PORTRAIT OF PRINCESS NATALIA DOLGORUKOVA NEE SHEREMETEVA, 19TH CEN. - An engraved portrait of the famed Princess Natalia Dolgorukova (née Sheremeteva), widely considered to be the most accomplished memoirist of 18th-century Russia and one of the first women writers to gain acknowledgement within the Empire. She was the daughter of the first Russian Count and famed Field Marshal Boris Sheremetev and wife to the exiled Prince Ivan Dolgorukov. This piece is inscribed under the portrait with the name of the artist, G. Afanasiev, and was published as part of a series of portraits by Plato Beketev.
