A PAIR OF BRONZE MONKEYS BY CHRISTOPHE FRATIN, SIGNED, CA. MID-19TH CENTURY - Pair Of Anthropomorphic Monkey Figures. Cast Bronze Statuettes With Signature. A Dancing Monkey And A Monkey With a Cane And a Matchstick Holder, Both Pieces By Christophe Fratin (1801-1864). Christophe Fratin (1801-1864) exhibited from 1831 and regularly in the living room. During these Salons, he met Antoine-Louis Barye, who commissioned successively pieces like the Tiger Devouring A Gharial in 1831, and his monumental Lion Snake of 1833. He ends up meeting with success and esteem: the critics are laudatory, and his works are selling well.
