A PAINTED AND CARVED ALABASTER SWORD HILT, INDIA - A sword hilt of the characteristic Indian form made from alabaster, carved in the shape of a horse. The carving is extremely detailed with facial features and lines in the mane for individual hairs. The surface of the piece is finely decorated in gilt and polychrome painting that has since faded.
