A GILT-BRONZE ORIENTALIST DOUBLE INKWELL, LATE 19TH CENTURY - The rectangular gilt-bronze base is finely engraved with scrolling foliate and arabesque ornament, raised on four shaped feet, with side turned handles in the form of stylized rosettes and pointed finials. The stepped platform supports a pair of domed, mosque-form inkwells, each with hinged lids surmounted by crescent finials. The interior is fitted with removable glass ink pots. The design reflects a strong Ottoman revival taste popular in late 19th-century Paris and Vienna. The craftsmanship (fine chiseling, applied motifs, mosque-inspired domes with crescents) points to French or Austrian Orientalist bronziers, possibly related to firms such as Christofle, Ferdinand Barbedienne, or Viennese workshops producing Islamic revival decorative objects. Functional inkwells of this type were popular at international expositions (Paris 1878, Vienna 1873) when Islamic art strongly influenced European decorative arts.
