A TURKISH SILVER-EMBROIDERED TUGRA TEXTILE, OTTOMAN EMPIRE, 19TH C. - Square textile embroidered with dense silver thread in starburst motifs forming concentric bands, with a central panel depicting an embroidered Ottoman tughra (imperial cipher) flanked by floral sprays. The textile is finished with metallic fringe borders. Such embroidered textiles were often produced as ceremonial covers or presentation cloths within the Ottoman court and associated institutions. The tughra, an imperial monogram of the reigning sultan, symbolized sovereign authority, and silver embroidery emphasized prestige.
