Bidspirit auction | A PAIR OF CONTINENTAL OVAL

A PAIR OF CONTINENTAL OVAL FRAMED FEMALE PORTRAIT PRINTS FRANCE OR CENTRAL EUROPE, 19TH CENTURY - A decorative pair of oval portrait prints depicting elegantly dressed young women in 18th-century court attire, each shown three-quarter length against a softly rendered interior or landscape background. The sitters wear richly detailed gowns with lace bodices, floral adornments, and jewelry, evoking Rococo and early Neoclassical aristocratic portraiture after French court models of the mid-18th century. The images appear to be chromolithographs or photogravures, likely produced after well-known painted originals, and intended for decorative interior use rather than as unique works. Each print is housed in a matching oval molded frame, dark stained and pressed with scrolling foliate ornament and beadwork along the inner edge, typical of late 19th-century Continental decorative framing. The reverse of each frame retains original pressed board backing with later hanging hardware, consistent with decorative production of the period. The pair presents as a cohesive ensemble and is well suited for traditional or period-inspired interiors. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C.
