A POLISH WINTER TROIKA SCENE, SIGNED, POLISH SCHOOL, EARLY 20TH CENTURY - Oil on canvas depicting a winter sleigh scene with a troika racing across a snow-covered landscape at dusk. The composition centers on a three-horse sleigh driven at speed through wind-swept snow while wolves pursue from the right background and foreground, lending urgency and narrative tension. The palette is dominated by cold blues, greys and muted whites contrasted with warm ochres and fiery accents in the sky and lanterns, creating a strong atmospheric effect. The vigorous brushwork, animated handling of snow and expressive animal forms are characteristic of Polish and Eastern European winter genre painting of the period. The work is signed at the lower left. The painting is housed in an ornate period carved and molded wooden frame with original painted and gilt decoration of Rococo revival taste and retains its original wooden backing board with later hanging hardware.
