A FRAMED GERMAN MINIATURE GOUACHE LANDSCAPE PAINTING WITH A CASTLE, GERMAN SCHOOL, LATE 19TH CENTURY - Gouache on paper depicting a romantic landscape with a river in the foreground wooded banks and a small castle or watchtower rising on a rocky outcrop in the distance The scene is animated by figures on horseback and a hunter within a warm autumnal palette dominated by ochres browns and soft greens The handling is fine and detailed consistent with late 19th century German and Central European miniature landscape painting intended for intimate domestic display Signed at the lower edge ”Marlot”. Housed in an ornate period gilt and stained wood frame with molded corners and a textile-lined mat. A decorative metal hanging element is mounted at the top The reverse bears an original paper backing with a handwritten dedication reading To My Wife Louise with best wishes and love by Marlot, 12 3 1971 along with a vintage gallery label from Lawner’s Auction Galleries 81 University Place, New York, indicating later retail or auction history.
