A GERMAN BIBLICAL ENGRAVING DEPICTING A SCENE FROM THE LIFE OF JOSEPH IN EGYPT, LATE 18TH TO EARLY 19TH CENTURY - Engraving with hand coloring depicting Joseph revealing himself to his brothers in Egypt, the central kneeling figure identified as Joseph receiving his brethren amid a group of standing figures in classical dress beneath a palm tree and architectural backdrop, the composition rendered in a neoclassical manner with careful linear engraving and subdued period coloring, the scene accompanied by a German-language biblical inscription beneath reading Joseph gibt sich seinen Brudern wieder, die ihn aber nicht erkennen, followed by explanatory text referencing the Old Testament narrative from Genesis, consistent with late 18th to early 19th century German devotional and didactic prints intended for domestic or ecclesiastical interiors. Housed in a period stained wooden frame with wide molded borders and visible age-related worming, the engraving protected by glass and retained within its original frame construction. Condition: The engraving with overall even toning and light surface wear, some fading to the hand coloring and minor foxing and staining consistent with age, the frame showing extensive wormholes, abrasions, and losses commensurate with prolonged use and age, the reverse retaining an old wooden backing and hanging loop.
