A HAND-PAINTED MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN, CONTINENTAL SCHOOL, MID TO LATE 19TH CENTURY - Hand-painted miniature portrait on porcelain depicting a young woman shown half length turned slightly to her left with a calm introspective expression, her dark hair loosely arranged with a flower and her low-cut classical dress rendered in soft translucent tones, the modeling delicate and finely blended with subtle shading to the flesh and careful attention to the eyes and lips, signed to the middle right N. Dupre, consistent with mid to late 19th century Continental miniature portrait painting inspired by 18th century French and Viennese prototypes and intended for intimate domestic display. Set within a gilt metal inner frame and mounted in a larger rectangular frame with mother-of-pearl veneer border and black velvet mat, fitted with a suspension ring.
