A MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF THE VIRGIN MARY, CONTINENTAL SCHOOL, MID TO LATE 19TH CENTURY - Hand-painted miniature portrait on porcelain depicting the Virgin Mary shown in a three-quarter view with downcast eyes and a serene contemplative expression, her head veiled in deep blue and framed by a soft halo-like glow, the flesh tones delicately modeled and the drapery rendered with smooth translucent shading in the tradition of 19th century devotional porcelain painting inspired by earlier Renaissance and Baroque prototypes, signed to the lower right Silo?, consistent with Continental workshop production intended for private devotion and domestic religious display. Set within an elaborate pierced and gilt metal frame with scrolling foliate ornament and arched crest, retaining one original turquoise cabochon ball inset into the frame, the reverse fitted with an easel stand for tabletop display.
