A FRENCH PAINTING DEPICTING A SPANISH DANCER, AFTER LOUIS JUSTIN LAURENT INCART, LATE 19TH TO EARLY 20TH CENTURY - Possibly reverse-painted composition depicting a dramatic Spanish dancer captured mid-movement with arched torso and sweeping skirt, her costume animated by deep reds and blacks accented with floral motifs and a fan held behind her, the figure set against a softly mottled ground that heightens the sense of motion and theatricality, the stylization closely related to works by Louis Justin Laurent Incart and reflecting the fin-de-siècle French fascination with Spanish dance and exoticized stage performers, executed with strong graphic outlines and rich color contrasts typical of decorative panels intended for interior display. Housed in a molded gilt and gesso frame with scrolling ornament, the reverse with a plain board backing and hanging wire. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
