Bidspirit auction | A COLORED PENCIL DRAWING OF
A COLORED PENCIL DRAWING OF A HARLEQUIN, MID 20TH CENTURY - Colored pencil on paper depicting a stylized harlequin or masked theatrical figure rendered in a restrained palette of muted reds browns and greys. The composition presents the figure in half-length with an elongated jester’s cap and mask-like facial features conveying a sense of quiet introspection rather than theatrical exuberance. The forms are simplified and gently abstracted with careful linear contouring and subtle tonal shading, giving the figure a sculptural presence. The handling and aesthetic reflect mid-20th-century modernist figural drawing with echoes of theatrical and commedia dell’arte iconography. Signed in red pencil at the lower right with a partially legible signature. The drawing is presented in a simple metal frame with a wide mat. The reverse retains an older cardboard backing with hanging wire and handwritten annotation reading ”The Mask” consistent with a period studio or exhibition reference.
