A PIETER ADRIANUS SCHIPPERUS (DUTCH, 1840-1929) ATTR. OIL ON BOARD PAINTING 'WOMEN GATHERING WOOD IN THE FOREST' - An oil on board painting attributed to Dutch artist Pieter Adrianus Schipperus (1840-1929), entitled 'Women Gathering Wood in the Forest'. Schipperus was a self-taught painter most well-known for his scenes of nature. At age 32 he received a grant from King William III of the Netherlands which allowed him to quit his previous job as a trader and focus on his career in art. He was a member of two artist's societies during his career, the Amsterdam based organization 'Arti et Amicitiae', as well as the 'Pulchri Studio' in The Hague, a group to which Vincent Van Gogh also belonged at the same time.
