AN AMERICAN ENAMEL ON COPPER PASTORAL SCENE, SIGNED ”MINGOLLA”, MID-20TH CENTURY - Enamel on copper depicting a tranquil lakeside pastoral scene with two female figures in long dresses positioned along the water’s edge beside a small boat. The composition reflects mid-20th-century decorative enamel practice, drawing on Impressionist-inspired color handling with softly modulated blues, greens, and yellows and a gently reflective water surface mirroring the wooded background. The enamel surface exhibits the characteristic vitreous gloss and layered coloration associated with kiln-fired copper enamels of the period. Signed “Mingolla” at the lower right, likely identifying a New York-based decorative enamelist active in the postwar era, possibly working within the Italian-American or émigré artisan community centered in Brooklyn. The work is presented in a period bamboo-style giltwood frame with a linen liner, consistent with American framing practices of the 1950s–1960s and likely original to the piece. The enamel surface is intact and stable with no visible losses cracking or lifting. Colors remain vibrant with an even vitreous gloss throughout. Minor surface abrasions and light handling marks are present consistent with age. The copper support shows no apparent warping. The frame exhibits light wear to the gilt finish and minor scuffs consistent with mid 20th century use.
