Bidspirit auction | PROBABLY A RUSSIAN IMPERIAL GLASS

PROBABLY A RUSSIAN IMPERIAL GLASS FACTORY CRYSTAL-CUT GLASS - Heavy colorless lead crystal vessel of beaker form, finely cut throughout in deep diamond and crosshatch patterns, the body centered on a polished oval reserve framed by dense hobnail-style cutting. The rim is plain and uncut, above a sharply faceted upper band, descending to a baluster stem with radiating cut panels. The foot is elaborately formed with a scalloped and lobed perimeter, each lobe deeply faceted, and the underside finished with a multi-pointed star cut base of high brilliance. The precision of the cutting, substantial weight, clarity of the crystal, and sculptural foot construction are consistent with high-quality Russian production, most likely attributable to the Imperial Glass Factory in Saint Petersburg, active in producing comparable ceremonial and table glass for court and elite use during the second half of the 19th century.
