Bidspirit auction | A WMF SILVER PLATED HAND
A WMF SILVER PLATED HAND MIRROR WITH MYTHOLOGICAL SCENE, GERMANY, CIRCA 1900 - A finely cast silver-plated hand mirror produced by Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik and designed in the Art Nouveau and late Historicist manner. The circular mirror plate is set within an architectonic mount surmounted on the reverse by a high-relief mythological scene depicting three male nude figures in classical drapery arranged around a central seated figure above stylized waves and marine attributes, the composition recalling allegorical representations of sea deities or classical heroes. The handle is elongated and tapering with fluted panels and terminating in a suspension ring, the reverse further enriched with a standing draped female figure in relief. The casting is crisp with carefully modeled musculature and ornamental scrollwork, characteristic of WMF sculptural metalwork of the period. The surface exhibits a warm, lightly patinated silver tone consistent with early twentieth-century production. Marked to the reverse with impressed WMF and model identifiers.
