A RUSSIAN GILT-SILVER AND NIELLO HINGED LIDDED CIGARETTE CASE, 1878 - A parcel-gilt silver cigarette box produced in Moscow in 1878, with its lid decorated with an engraved and nielloed city skyline with dotted with flags and billowing smokestacks, the underside with an engraved and nielloed sun surrounded by geometric patterning. The interior accessed with the press of a button at the seam, revealing the parcel-gilt interior which has been stamped with the hallmarks. Imperial Russia, 19th century. Hallmarks: Cyrillic 'P.G.' maker's mark on each half, 'B.C / 1878' assayer's and date mark, 84 silver proof, St George Moscow mark. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
