A RUSSIAN SILVER AND NIELO FLATWARE SET, MOSCOW, 1838 - Comprising a knife, fork, tablespoon, and teaspoon, each with engraved and niello floral ornament in scrolling foliate design on gilt grounds. The knife with a steel blade marked W WARRANTED and silver handle struck with assay and maker’s marks; the utensils with matching gilded bowls and tines. The knife blade stamped with the Cyrillic maker’s mark ЯКОВЛЕВЪ beneath a double-headed Imperial eagle, indicating the Moscow silversmith Yakovlev. Hallmarks: 84 zolotnik silver standard (875 fineness), assayer’s mark A.К. with date 1842 (Alexander Kovalsky, Moscow), assayer’s mark Н.А. with date 1838 (Nikolay Dubrovin, Moscow), St. George (Moscow town mark).
