A RUSSIAN GILT-SILVER AND NIELLO HINGED LIDDED SNUFF BOX, 19 C. - Rectangular snuff box with rounded corners, the exterior richly decorated in niello on a dark ground with scrolling foliate motifs densely covering the sides and base. The hinged lid set with a rectangular niello panel finely engraved with a figural hunting scene depicting a bear in a wooded landscape, executed in contrasting silver and dark niello with stippled ground and linear detailing.
