A LOT OF FOUR INDIAN TABLE SILVER ORNAMENTS, 19TH CENTURY - Comprising four individually modeled table ornaments of fruit and nut form, including a pomegranate, a pear, a pinecone, and a faceted gourd, each executed in hammered and chased silver with hinged construction. The surfaces are decorated with engraved and punched floral and foliate motifs, stippled scrollwork, and textural modeling appropriate to each fruit, with realistically shaped stems and leaves forming the finials or handles. The pieces are hollow, opening at the midsection, and were intended as table ornaments or small boxes for spices, comfits, or aromatic contents, reflecting the Anglo-Indian tradition of ornamental silverware produced for both local elite and export markets during the 19th century. Several pieces bear stamped or struck marks including ”SILVER”, ”925”, and ”900”, indicating sterling and near-sterling standards typical of Indian silver production of the period, along with workshop or control symbols that are partially obscured by wear.
