Bidspirit auction | A RUSSIAN BRONZE FIGURE OF
A RUSSIAN BRONZE FIGURE OF A PEASANT BOY ON A SLED MOUNTED ON A ROCK CRYSTAL, LATE 19TH CENTURY - Cast as a young peasant boy wearing winter attire with a fur hat and heavy coat, seated on a small sled and captured at rest or in gentle motion, his legs extended forward, and one hand braced behind him. The bronze is finely modeled with expressive facial features and carefully observed details in the clothing folds, boots, and sled construction. The surface retains a warm, rich brown patina with subtle highlights to the raised areas, enhancing the sculptural depth. The figure is mounted on a large, naturally formed rock crystal base, irregularly faceted and translucent with internal inclusions, creating a striking contrast between the polished bronze and the raw mineral support. Minor surface wear and rubbing to the bronze is consistent with age. The rock crystal base shows natural fissures, inclusions, and edge irregularities inherent to the material. No apparent losses or structural instability visible.
