Bidspirit auction | A FRENCH GILT BRONZE CANDY

A FRENCH GILT BRONZE CANDY BOWL OR CENTERPIECE, 19TH C. - Cast and finely chased gilt bronze centerpiece raised on a circular tray and baluster stem terminating in a tripod base with scroll feet. The surface is richly worked with scrolling foliage and stylized vegetal ornament, surmounted by a sculptural finial in the form of a standing bird, modeled in the round with carefully defined plumage and elongated beak. The dish is gently dished with concentric moldings and retains its original mercury-gilt surface, now with attractive age-related wear and oxidation consistent with period use. French work of the 19th century, likely intended as a table centerpiece or bonbon dish in the Louis XV or eclectic revival taste. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
