Bidspirit auction | A FRENCH BRONZE BUST OF

A FRENCH BRONZE BUST OF AN ORIENTAL WOMAN, LATE 19TH CENTURY - A finely cast French bronze bust depicting a richly adorned ”Oriental” or Middle Eastern woman, typical of the Orientalist movement in late 19th-century sculpture. The figure is shown wearing an elaborately tooled headscarf with layered jewelry, including a chased necklace and embroidered costume, all crisply rendered with excellent attention to surface detail. The bronze displays a deep, even brown patina characteristic of French foundry work of the period. Raised on a square plinth base, the bust presents the idealized beauty and exoticism celebrated by French Orientalist sculptors of the late 1800s, following the artistic popularity of Gérôme, Barye, Cordier, and Clésinger.
