A GRAND TOUR BRONZE OF WRESTLERS, ITALY, LATE 19TH CENTURY - A finely cast and patinated bronze group depicting two classical warriors in combat. The standing figure, shown nude and wearing a crested helmet, raises a club while restraining his opponent, who is forced to the ground. The sculptural group draws inspiration from antique Roman and Hellenistic models that were widely reproduced during the Grand Tour period. The figures are well defined with muscular modeling and expressive movement. The base is naturalistically cast and mounted on a variegated marble plinth. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
