A BRUNO ZACH (AUSTRIAN, 1891–1945) BRONZE FIGURAL GROUP “THE SLAVE SELLER” - A striking Art Deco period bronze group by Bruno Zach, depicting a nude female figure standing shyly with one hand across her chest, while an older male merchant or “slave seller” crouches beside her, gesturing toward a prospective buyer. The contrast between the smooth, idealized female form and the expressive, textured modeling of the seated man is characteristic of Zach’s dramatic figurative compositions. Cast in dark brown patinated bronze with fine surface definition and excellent detail to the anatomy, drapery, and facial features. Raised on its original stepped variegated marble base, typical of Zach’s studio and Viennese bronzes of the 1920s–30s. Bruno Zach was one of the most sought-after sculptors of the interwar Art Deco era, known for his often provocative and psychologically intense figural subjects produced for the Viennese and Berlin decorative art markets.
