A FRED PRESS (1919-2012) SIGNED BRONZE BUST OF A FAWN, 20TH CEN. - A bronze bust of a young fawn by American artist Fred Press (1919-2012), with pointed, elf-like features and two small horns emanating from his brow, kept atop a black cuboid plinth which is also set atop a wooden base. The piece is signed by the artist on the reverse. Fred Press was born to a family of Russian immigrants in 1919, beginning sculpture at a very young age, first winning awards in the Proctor & Gamble Soap Sculpture competitions as a teenager. He would go on to serve in the Air Force during WW2 before returning to a life of artistic endeavor. He would move to New York City in the 1950s, becoming the Chief Designer and Executive Vice President of Rubel and Company for around thirty years.
