Bidspirit auction | A BRONZE FIGURAL GROUP OF
A BRONZE FIGURAL GROUP OF A WOMAN AND A CAT, CONTINENTAL EUROPEAN SCHOOL, MID 20TH CENTURY - Cast in bronze and composed as a slender, elongated female figure standing beside a stylized cat, the woman depicted upright with gently inclined head and attenuated limbs, rendered with a reductive modernist vocabulary emphasizing verticality and quiet intimacy. The cat, shown standing on hind legs with tail extended and head raised toward the woman, echoes the same simplified linear treatment, creating a balanced and harmonious interaction between the two figures. Both figures retain a warm golden-bronze patina with subtle surface variation and wear from age and handling. The composition is mounted on a rectangular wooden base with a rich natural grain, serving as an integrated plinth and reinforcing the sculptural presentation. The stylization and proportions reflect mid-20th-century modernist figurative sculpture, closely aligned with European decorative bronze traditions of the period.
