Bidspirit auction | A BRONZE BUST OF AUGUSTUS

A BRONZE BUST OF AUGUSTUS (GAIUS JULIUS CAESAR AUGUSTUS), 20TH CENTURY - A finely cast bronze portrait bust depicting Augustus (Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus) with youthful, idealized features inspired by classical Roman prototypes. The figure is shown with short layered hair, deeply undercut to emphasize texture, and with a contemplative downward gaze. The facial modeling is smooth and refined with subtle transitions across the cheeks and jawline. The bust is mounted on a stepped reddish stone plinth, which provides an attractive contrast to the dark patinated bronze. Works of this type were popular in early to mid-20th century Europe and America, produced for academic settings, private libraries, and interiors inspired by neoclassical aesthetics. The casting is crisp with well-defined contours and an even patina that enhances the sculptural form. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C.
