A RUSSIAN ORDER OF ST. ANNA, 1ST CLASS WITH SASH, LATE 19TH CENTURY - Gold and enameled insignia of the Imperial Russian Order of St. Anna, 1st Class, comprising the badge and original sash, manufactured by Eduard. The badge formed as a four-armed cross with concave arms enameled in translucent ruby red over finely engine-turned ground, bordered by gold edges, with elaborate pierced and gilded scrollwork between the arms. The central obverse medallion is painted in polychrome enamel, depicting Saint Anna, surrounded by a finely chased gilt sunburst frame. The reverse medallion with white enamel ground bearing the blue enamel cipher beneath an Imperial crown, executed in accordance with regulations for 1st Class insignia. The gold maker’s hallmark of Kiebel is struck beneath the translucent red enamel on the lower ray, a known and documented placement for this workshop. The suspension loop struck with the Russian gold proof ”56”, confirming Imperial standard gold. The badge is suspended from its original gold suspension ring. Accompanied by the original broad red moiré sash with narrow yellow borders, consistent in weave and coloration with Imperial Russian court manufacture. The quality of enameling, goldsmith’s work, and overall construction corresponds to high-grade production of the late Imperial period, circa 1890–1917. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
