A ROMANIAN ORDER OF CAROL I BREAST STAR, FIRST MODEL, CA. 1906 - Breast Star, First Model, 93 mm, gilt silver. Of eight-rayed form with finely faceted rays, the center is applied with a crowned eagle within a circular medallion. The Order of Carol I, the highest order of the Kingdom of Romania, was instituted on May 10, 1906, on the occasion of the 40th Jubilee of the reign of King Carol I of Hohenzollern. Originally awarded in four classes: Collar, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, and Commander, it represented the pinnacle of Romanian chivalric distinction. In 1932, following the establishment of the Order of Loyal Service, the grades of Grand Officer and Commander were discontinued, though previously conferred insignia remained authorized for wear until the abolition of the monarchy in 1947.
