A EUROPEAN ROMANTIC DAGGER WITH SCULPTURAL HILT, 19TH CENTURY - A romantic dagger affixed with a sculptural hilt and decorative sheath, both composed of gilt brass. The hilt is shaped as an armored beast clutching a serpent whose tail is wrapped around one of the quillons, winding foliate shapes emanating upward form the grip. The blade is of a relatively simple triangular shape and is kept within a sheath decorated similarly to the hilt, with beasts crawling along vines in relief. Europe, 19th century.
