A EUROPEAN ROMANTIC DAGGER WITH SCULPTURAL HILT, 19TH CENTURY - A European romantic dagger with a sculptural hilt depicting a man in medieval-inspired clothing looking down to his left. He originally was leaning casually against the haft of his double-headed axe. The forte of the blade is marked with a symbol, likely a maker's mark, appearing as an abstract shape similar to a candlestick, surrounded by three instances of the letter 'S', the one at the center being oriented perpendicular to the others. The sheath is decorated with molded foliate patterns and a face appearing much like a satyr or green man. Europe, 19th century. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
