A WOOTZ BLADED PERSIAN KHANJAR WITH A CARVED BONE HANDLE, 18TH CENTURY - Curved double-edged khanjar dagger with a fine wootz steel blade of shallow triangular section, showing a pronounced medial ridge and tapering to an acute point. The blade is fitted to an elaborately carved handle, the grip formed in two joined halves and deeply carved on both sides with standing figural scenes depicting a man and a woman beneath a canopy or arch, rendered in low relief. The upper and lower terminals of the handle are encircled by carved bands of vegetal ornament and scrolling cartouches containing stylized inscriptions in pseudo-Kufic or ornamental script. The handle exhibits a rich honey-toned patina with visible age cracks and wear consistent with early manufacture. The dagger is accompanied by its original leather-covered scabbard, tapering in form and fitted with a small metal chape at the tip. Please make all inquiries before bidding. The carved handle shows small cracks, surface abrasions, and areas of patina, with the figural decoration remaining legible and well-preserved. The scabbard displays wear, creasing, and surface losses to the leather covering, with losses and oxidation to the metal chape.
