A CAUCASIAN KINDJAL OR QUAMA DAGGER WITH GOLD INLAY, 19 C. - A large Caucasian kindjal or qama dagger, 19th century. The blade has a pointy double-edged blade, with gold inlaid in the koftgari technique, and an inscription in nasta'liq Arabic script along the central groove on the front of the blade. The wooden scabbard is covered with black shgreen leather. The handle is made of two carved plates attached to the tang by two steel rivets decorated with gold koftgari, and enriched with turquoise pearls. A similar dagger may be found in Robert Hales, Islamic and Oriental Arms and Armour: A Lifetime’s Passion, Butler Tanner and Dennis Ltd. (England, 2013). p. 104.
