A CAUCASIAN KINDJAL DAGGER WITH BONE GRIP SCALES, 19TH CENTURY - A finely crafted Caucasian kindjal dagger with a double-edged blade, scrolling foliate patterning in the Islamic style, and some of the gilding remaining near the hilt. The grip scales are of carved and polished bone mounted to the tang with decorative blackened steel rivets decorated with gold damascene, the tang itself being of the same style. Each side of the blade bears a deep, offset fuller. The blade is kept within a dark-brown leather scabbard mounted with silver fixtures, which have been decorated with repousse flowers. A damascened steel bar with an attachment ring allows the wearer to affix a lanyard or other device for hanging the dagger. Caucasus, 19th century. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
