AN OTTOMAN CAUCASIAN KNIFE SET IN A RED LEATHER SHEATH, 19TH CENTURY - A Caucasian style knife set from the Ottoman Empire, the smaller being similar in style to a modern butter knife, while the larger is in the characteristic form of a kindjal, with a gladius-like blade and many fullers. Both knives have guards with chased decoration as well as carved bone grip scales. They are kept within a red leather sheath with gilt stitching and a border cut with triangular patterning at the mouth. Ottoman Empire or Caucasus, 19th century.
