AN OTTOMAN BLUE SAPPHIRE GLASS HILTED DAMASCUS KHANJAR - A striking Ottoman khanjar with a deeply carved hilt of blue sapphire glass, imitating the prized hardstones favored in the court workshops of the late Ottoman Empire. The grip and pommel are executed in a faceted architectural form, showing stepped carving and columnar details. The guard is shaped in classic Ottoman style with flaring terminals. The curved steel blade displays a visible wootz pattern and is decorated at the forte with finely executed gold koftgari work of scrolling vegetal motifs.
