AN INDO PERSIAN DAMASCUS KHANJAR DAGGER WITH LAPIS LAZULI HILT - A finely crafted ceremonial khanjar with a grip of carved lapis with a large, double lion-headed pommel. The curved Damascus blade displays a visible wootz pattern and retains areas of gold koftgari ornamentation at the forte. Khanjars with hardstone hilts have a long tradition in Indo-Persian and Ottoman courtly culture. Lapis examples are especially prized due to the difficulty of carving the stone and the association of lapis with prestige and ceremonial use.
